What’s your story?
The mind is a very powerful tool, Traditionally, scientists have tried to define the mind as the product of brain activity but growing evidence shows that the mind goes far beyond the physical workings of your brain. The mind most often refers to the seat of human consciousness, it controls our train of thoughts, emotions, and ultimately our decisions.
“The whole of science is nothing more than a refinement of everyday thinking.” — Albert Einstein
Everything we do and we have done in our lives is guided by our thoughts. Basically, our thoughts create stories in our minds that we’re not aware of, and these stories can profoundly shape who we are, and the decisions that we make. Recognizing how these stories influence us is a basic principle of self-awareness and Mindfulness.
We are all-natural storytellers and that’s how we organize our internal worlds. We spend a great proportion of our time encoding information into matrices of meaning that we use to interpret and predict social events, relationship experiences, and outcomes.
People often blame the circumstances behind the stories made by their thought-process, I agree the environment and circumstances do play a role in making up these stories but it doesn’t address the root of the cause (your thought-process) that is the driver behind why you feel the way you do.
Here’s what you need to realize:
If you want to change the outside, you must first change the inside. You must change the attention of your thoughts because what you think directly influences how you feel, and how you feel directly influences how your body reacts, and how your body reactions directly influence how you behave, and how you behave comes to define who you are!
People who always focus on the negative aspect of everything attract negative energy and all of these negative thoughts create negative stories in your brain. Soon these stories become your beliefs and are interwoven into the fabric of who we are and how we inhabit the world.
For example, if you regularly engage with the thought that you’re a failure and feed more attention to it, you’ll start to feel down, worthless, discouraged, and perhaps even depressed.
How does your body react to this? You sulk down, slump your shoulders, and project no confidence. But if you engage with more empowering thoughts, they would boost your confidence and thus trigger a more positive emotional state which will then be reflected in how your body reacts: standing up straight, upbeat, and energized.
In short, your mind can either be your best friend or your worst enemy because the thoughts it controls are powerless until whichever thought you choose to focus on, it will then grow and multiply.
“It all begins and ends in your mind. What you give power to has power over you.”
― Leon Brown
The good news is, you can get the control and be in charge of your own thoughts and stories. So, if you want to change your thought process and improve your life story then you have to take action because It’s Only you, who lives with these thoughts, no one else!
Research shows us that we can not only have the capacity to pay attention to and stop the chatter of our stories, but we can also reduce our stress, rewire our minds, and reinvent our relationships by responding to them differently.
The only thing that you need to do consistently is to keep reminding yourself of the power of the thoughts you give your attention to, because these thoughts create stories and they become your beliefs and they go on to define your life and how you experience it.
“Whatever you hold in your mind on a consistent basis is exactly what you will experience in your life.” — Tony Robbins
